Guide to naming new developments

  1. Prior to the commencement of development, proposals for an estate/street name should be submitted to the Planning Authority and the Secretary of the Placenames Committee c/o the Planning Department for the written agreement of the Planning Authority.  This proposal should include a 1:10560 O.S map of the area with the site outlined in red and the proposed name and a list of alternatives and a rationale for their choice (6 copies). 

    No publicity material or publicity hoarding in association with the development shall be circulated or erected until the above has been agreed. 

  2. Estate and street plates should be of a design and at a location to be agreed in writing with the Planning Authority prior to the commencement of the development and shall be in place within 3 months of the completion of the estate and/or each phase and in the case of the main entrance estate name plate within 3 months of the occupation of the first house. 

  3. A housing numbering scheme and associated signage shall be submitted for the written agreement of the planning authority and shall be in place within 3 months of the completion of the estate and/or each phase.
