Waterside history of the twin towns of Killaloe/Ballina
This video was made in July 2020. It explores the waterside history of the twin towns of Killaloe/Ballina, where Lough Derg meets the River Shannon, in the 1800s.
National Heritage Week celebrates all things heritage. It brings together communities, families, organisations, cultural institutions, academics and enthusiasts, to build awareness about the value of heritage and support its conservation.

Presented by local tour guide, Una Kierse, it brings us from the Marble Mill, between the waters and the pier head on the Clare side, and across the historic bridge to the disused railway on the Tipperary side.
Deborah Dudgeon tells us about the Ponsonby Hotel by the canal, and Brian J Goggin describes the impact of the barge and steamboat traffic.
Aoife O'Mara gives us a glimpse of the water activity in Killaloe today, which is still a bustling riverside centre.
