Clare Museum to take part in International Museums Day.

Clare Museum is to take part in this year’s celebration’s for International Museum Day on 18th May.This event is celebrated in museums across the world and will resonate even more so this year as people from all communities face the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.The theme of this year’s International Museum’s Day is ‘Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion’.

Local authorities across Ireland play a vital role in preserving and promoting culture and heritage,ensuring the best possible quality of life for their communities.Through their museum services,they strengthen local communities by underpinning a sense of identity and pride of place Now more than ever they are working hard to help people through this difficult and challenging time.Because of the worldwide restrictions on social interaction,museums are going digital to outreach to people.

Clare Museum is a member of the Local Authority Museums Network.The LAMN has partnered with the National Museum of Ireland, the Irish Museums Association and the International Committee of Museums to provide a wide range of online activities between them.The current COVID-19 pandemic is an extraordinary world-wide public health crisis that will be the defining event of our generation.We are making history right now.To this end,Clare Museum is seeking photographs and your stories that record the experiences of Clare people during this pandemic for the benefit of future generations.Clare Museum is enabling communities in the county to continue to feel connected.Clare Museum aims to build a collection telling the story of our county’s experience of the pandemic.County museums in Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Carlow, Tipperary, Galway, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Cork and Kerry are also collecting for their counties.

Other activities include featuring objects in the museum collection and highlighting them online using photographs and through the making of videos. These can be viewed on Clare Museum’s Facebook page.
