Temporary Road Closures over the Christmas Period in Ennis

Covid 19 Pandemic necessitates traffic rerouting and the closure of roads in Ennis Town Centre so as to allow for adequate social distancing in line with Government guidelines.

The following is the intended additional road closures and traffic rerouting measures for the Christmas period.

Roads to be closed:

  • Abbey Street at the entrance to Abbey Street Carpark
  • Frances Street at the entrance to Abbey Street
  • O'Connell Street & O’Connell Square
  • Bank Place to the exit from Abbey Street Carpark-Old Friary lane
  • Salt House Lane and High Street
  • Cabey's Lane at Market Place
  • Lower Parnell Street from Carmody Street to Cabey's Lane
  • Woodquay can be accessed from the carpark side

Summerhill will be altered to a two-way traffic system, with access to River Lane from the river side and Fahy's Lane from Summerhill.

Alternative routes around the town will be via the Inner Ring Road (Clare Road –Carmody Street-Cornmarket Street-Mill Road-Maid of Eireann Roundabout-Sandfield Park-Hospital Roundabout-Gort Road-Lifford Rd-Tulla Road- Knoxes Bridge-Clonroad-Clonroadmore-St Flannan’s Terrace-Captain Macs Cross-Clare Road)

Dates and Times of Closures:

  • Sunday 6th December from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Sunday 13th December from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Sunday 20th December from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Sunday 27th December from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Sunday 2nd January from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Deliveries

Deliveries will be able to access the town up to 1:00 pm and after 6:00 pm only. Additional loading bays will be provided in Friars Walk car park (near the Museum) and Abbey Street car park (near Brewery Lane) to assist unloading outside these hours. There will also be four Click and Collect 15minute time limited parking spaces provided in the Abbey Street carpark (near Brewery Lane) and Friars Walk Carpark (near the Museum) to assist the collection of purchases from businesses.

Traffic re-routing measures will also impact on the on-street car parking in those areas.
