Heritage Week

National Heritage Week 2023 - 12 -20 August 2023 Living Heritage is the theme for this year’s National Heritage Week with a schedule of events taking place around County Clare from the 12th August to 20th August 2023. This year’s theme invites you to explore the traditions and practices, knowledge and skills passed down through generations.

This is the 21st annual celebration of County Clare’s Built, Natural, Oral and Cultural Heritage is being co-ordinated locally by Clare County Council and The Heritage Council, with support from Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Over 80 events in County Clare over National Heritage Week have been registered on the National Heritage Week website.  Local events taking place include lectures, field trips, film screenings, workshops, exhibitions, traditional music, dancing and storytelling, local history walks and talks. Clare County Council has produced a National Heritage Week Booklet of Events being held in County Clare which is available at Clare County Council Offices and Libraries as well as at other locations  throughout the County. This booklet is also available below.

  • An Urban Forest Management in Ennis & Traditional Crafts Demonstration at De Valera Park, New Road, Ennis on Thursday 17th from 1pm to 3pm.
  • Stories Through Generations with Ciara Carew at Ennis Library, Harmony Row on Wednesday 16th August at 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

To promote public consultation on the Clare County Heritage Plan 2023-2029, Clare County Council is also hosting a series of Pre-draft Public Consultation events during National Heritage Week at the following locations:

  •  An information stand and public consultation workshops at Vandeleur Walled Gardens on Thursday 17th August from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
  • An information stand and public consultation workshops Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on Thursday 17th August from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
  • An information stand at O’Connell Square, Ennis Town Centre, on Friday 18th August from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

Heritage Week Competition

To celebrate National Heritage Week and to promote Public Consultation on the Clare County Heritage Plan 2023-2029, Clare County Council, in association with Shannon Heritage, are offering one lucky winner an Annual Family Pass to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park.

The County Clare Heritage Plan 2023-2029 will address natural, architectural, archaeological, oral and cultural heritage in the County over the next six years and we want to hear from you!
