Making it a New Year's resolution

18 December 2018

Preventing Waste and Recycling isn’t just for Christmas!

Help make County Clare’s Christmas Green by taking steps to prevent the generation of waste and recycling your glass bottles and jars; aluminium drink cans; food cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, Christmas cards; newspaper and magazines

Top tips for a greener Christmas

  • Choose products with less packaging. Say no to excess packaging;
  • Visit www.stopfoodwaste.ie for tips on food waste prevention;
  • Buy just what you need - buy more and you’ll throw it out
  • Remember, choose to reuse this Christmas
  • Take your reusable bag when doing your shopping;
  • Use reusable napkins, cutlery and crockery - avoid single use items
  • Choose reusable containers/ lunchboxes instead of plastic or foil wrapping
  • There are more items and packaging to recycle around Christmas, but make it your gift to the environment to recycle all year round
  • Unsure what can/cannot be recycled - visit www.mywaste.ie
  • Ensure that all items are CLEAN, DRY and LOOSE before popping them into your recycle bin

And when the party is over...

  • Items that cannot be reused, repaired or upcycled can be brought to your local Recycling Centre where a car load of recyclable material costs €5
  • There also are 49 bottle banks across Co. Clare where you can take your empty glass bottles/ jars/ aluminium drink cans for recycling.
  • You can recycle your used electrical items and batteries free of charge in any of our recycling centres.
  • If you have a real Christmas Tree you can recycle it for FREE at one of the following newly designated Christmas tree recycling centres around County Clare from the 2nd January 2019 to the 25th January 2019:
  • Central Waste Management Facility, Ballyduff Beg, Inagh;
  • Lisdeen Recycling Centre & Transfer Station, Kilkee;
  • Scariff Recycling Centre & Transfer Station;
  • Shannon Recycling Centre;
  • Gardening Section, Gort Rd, Ennis (Adjacent to Cois na hAbhana) Drop off point outside gates

Christmas trees must only be deposited at these 5 approved recycling locations. Please do not deposit trees at any other locations, as these trees will not be collected.
