Poetry recitals and gardening tips at Clare Library

Expert advice on year-round planting and a celebration of poetry from around the world feature on Clare County Library’s programme of events for April.

Gardeners are invited to a talk entitled ‘Twelve Months – Twelve Plants’ by Carl Wright at the DeValera Public Library, Harmony Row, Ennis on Tuesday 24 April from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm. Carl, owner and creator of Caher Bridge Garden in Fanore, will talk about twelve plants that are suitable and good for a west of Ireland garden. Carl is a known expert speaker at Garden and Flower Clubs all over the country. Coinciding with the talk, and in the run-up to the Clare Garden Festival, a selection of gardening books will be displayed in the DeValera Public Library from Monday 23 April for one week.

Poetry Day Ireland takes place on Thursday 26 April and will be marked at the DeValera Public Library, Ennis from 11.00 am until midday. The event ‘Poetry beyond Borders’ invites people from Ireland and beyond to read a poem from their country of origin or a favourite poem from another country. To celebrate Bliain na Gaeilge poetry as Gaeilge will also feature.  Mike Douse and the Clare Poetry Collective will be joined by Eleanor Feely in presenting the event.
