Date issued: 27/10/17

The finale of Clare County Library’s Children’s Book Festival took place in glór on Thursday evening when more than 500 children from 13 schools attended the ‘Things That Go Bump in the Night’ show with award-winning authors, Caroline Busher and E.R. Murray.

The hour-long event featured a horde of Halloween stories, myths and legends from around the world and a special Halloween-themed song written especially for the children of County Clare.

Almost 70 events took place throughout the Clare County Library network and all were fully supported by National Schools in the branch catchment areas. Other authors in this year’s programme included Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin, Gillian Perdue, Derek Mulveen and Myra Zepf.

Illustration workshops came courtesy of Aidan Courtney, Dr. Eamon Doyle OF THE Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark spoke about geology and Cork’s Blackrock Castle Observatory C.I.T. brought its Stardome and mobile planetarium to Kilkee Library and helped children design and make their own aliens at other library locations over a two-day visit.

Farm safety talks by Agri-Kids were supported by the presenters’ ‘Tales From Riverside Farm’ books available for borrowing and Clare Beekeeper Frank Considine shared his extensive knowledge about bees from plants, biodiversity and humans.

Author visits from Alan Nolan and Matt Griffin cancelled due to storm Ophelia will be re-scheduled in the coming weeks.
